Every piece of this site was generated by a handful of Node.js scripts that I wrote myself. No Webpack, no React, no “ecosystem”. Just markdown, templates, and a relentless desire to stay in control.
When you build your own static site generator, you’re not just writing code – you’re defining a relationship with the web. You decide exactly what goes into the final HTML, how it’s structured, and how it behaves. There’s no mystery, no magic. Just pure, deterministic output.
This kind of sovereignty over your own publishing pipeline is rare today. We’ve traded understanding for convenience, and every npm install pulls in a thousand dependencies we’ll never read. But the void doesn’t forget – complexity always extracts its price. So I choose simplicity, and in doing so, I find peace.
